WINE PICK OF THE MONTH: AUGUST 2016
Hahn Estates – Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir – $11.99 per bottle.
Hahn Family Vineyards has been in production since 1980 in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey, California. Nicky Hahn was an instrumental part of establishing Santa Lucia Highlands as a recognized American Viticultural Area and they have been sustainably farming over 650 acres in that area. Hahn is a leader in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from this region and more and more wineries are sourcing from this AVA.
Hahn Pinot Gris
In Monterey County where the fruit for this wine grows, cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean slow down ripening and allow the fruit to develop vibrant flavors and brisk acidity. Hahn’s vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs are a significant source of fruit for this Pinot Gris.
Once harvest is complete, Hahn ferments the grapes in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This cool and neutral method of fermentation preserves delicate floral and stone fruit aromas and contributes to a bright finish. Enjoy notes of peach, tart pear and banana, along with a silky mouthfeel and crisp acidity. Flavors of Meyer lemon and green apple complement the finish.
