Island Market is our family-owned and operated grocery store on beautiful Orcas Island.

We have been proudly serving our Orcas Island community with quality products, outstanding customer service and inspired progression since 1897.

Today, we are the primary grocery store on Orcas Island, providing a full-serve Deli & Bakery, meat department with butchers on staff, and a produce department with a wide-variety of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. We pride ourselves in offering a unique mix of local products from Orcas Island, the San Juan Islands and the state of Washington in our friendly neighborhood market.

The original store was started by our great-great grandfather Hugh Wooster Templin over 125 years ago.

Over time the building has moved locations and even changed names from Templin’s Fair to Templin’s General Store, and now Orcas Island Market. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to hiring the best staff and providing the best-quality products to our community and guests. Our staff consists of over 55 year-round employees, plus many local students for summer support.

In 1972, our father, Dale Linnes, took ownership of Templin’s Store. He carried on the principles of running a successful business instilled in him by his father Woodrow (Woody) Linnes.

“Take care of your employees, maintain a clean store, and lead with integrity.”

“Have a clean store, fair prices, surround yourself with smart, experienced people, and always make sure every customer leaves happy.”
Dale Linnes

Community Support

Support of our community and a deep commitment to excellent customer service remains the foundation of how we run our store today. We are committed to providing the best experience and offering quality products to our customers each and every day.

A Family Affair

We have been fortunate to have grown up working in the store, learning the business from our father, Dale. Over the years, we have held a variety of roles including meat cutter, cashier, and stock clerks. Growing up and working alongside veteran employees, some of whom have spent more than 30 years working in our store, has been invaluable to our growing experience and developing our life-long profession. We attribute the success of Island Market to these role models and to the Orcas Island community for its loyalty and enduring support.

Whether you are stopping in for a daily cup of coffee at Teezer’s Coffeehouse, grabbing a bite to eat at the Hot Bar or Cookhouse, or it’s your first visit to Orcas Island, we want you to have a wonderful shopping experience.

We look forward to seeing you in the store!

Sincerely,

Jason and Jacob Linnes
